Monaco Grand Prix 24-27 May 2012

The Monaco Grand Prix is the jewel in the F1 crown, there is no better way to view this race than from the deck of a super yacht moored literally feet from the track.

Every year 37,000 people flock to this tiny Mediterranean playground of the rich and famous to experience motor sports finest spectacle. The Monaco Grand Prix is without doubt one of the finest representations of Glamour and prestige in the world.

The Red Eye team pride ourselves on being able to offer the very best in Grand Prix hospitality and ensure our guests experience a Formula 1 weekend they will never forget.

The streets of Monte Carlo witnessed the inaugural Monaco Grand Prix (Grand Prix de Monaco) in 1929 where the race was won by "Williams" (pseudonym of William Grover-Williams) in a Buggatti type 35B.

Since then Monaco has seen many famous winners including Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost, Fernando Alonso, Niki Lauda, Jacki Stewart and arguably the finest Monaco experts, Graham Hill (5 wins) and Ayrton Senna.

Amongst the current crop of drivers only Alonso has won the Monaco Grand Prix on more than one occasion.

From the constructors McLaren are the undoubted kings of Monaco with 15 wins (Vs. their nearest rivals Ferrari with 9 wins).

Monaco GP Facts

The number of tight corners in Monaco mean that there are around 55 gear changes per lap, before the invention of the paddle, gear changes would leave many a driver with badly blistered hands.

In any given race there is a 60% probability of a safety car being deployed.

The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the events that form Motor sports triple crown (along with the Indy 500 and Le Mans).

Many drivers through the years have made Monaco their home, including Giles Villeneuve, Jenson Button, David Coulthard and Ayrton Senna (In 1988 Senna crashed out from the lead and retired to his apartment).

Sadly the Monaco Grand Prix has seen 3 deaths in Formula 1, Norman Linnecar (1948), Luigi Fagioli (1952), Lorenzo Bandini (1967).

The shortest ever Monaco GP was in 1984 (31 laps) stopped because of torrential rail, during the race F1 rookie Ayrton Senna made his way up to 2nd place from 13th on the grid and passed the leader Alain Prost on lap 31 but was not deemed to have completed a full lap. This result remains one of the most controversial descisions in motor racing history. See a video clip of the race here
