After wrapping up the championship in Mexico, and securing the race win in Brazil, he’ll have the chance to celebrate his historic fifth title win in Abu Dhabi, regardless of the result. Even with the title wrapped expect the drivers to bow out in celebratory fashion at one of the calendars most iconic circuits!
The Season Finale; The Journey To Abu Dhabi
Hamilton’s domination this season was inspiring, securing ten wins and wrapping up the season with two races to go. His road to victory had many twists and turns, with arguably his most important race win in 2018 coming at the Italian Grand Prix. The win at Monza served as a crucial psychological blow to Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, as he emerged victorious from third on the grid on tifosi home turf. In a season which saw two four-time World Champions go head-to-head for the first time, it was consistency, not out-right speed, which swung the battle in the Briton’s favour. After failing to wrap up the championship in America, Hamilton emerged victorious at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which hosted a tense Mexican GP as he tackled tyre wear and vibrations. He has undoubtedly raised the bar to a new level, revelling in his achievements whilst making motor racing history. While Vettel showed sheer dominance at certain races throughout the championship, his frequent mistakes proved his undoing, unravelling his campaign mid-season with multiple spins and an unaided crash whilst leading in Germany. Hamilton bagged necessary points even when on the back-foot. By equalling Juan Manuel Fangio; falling two short of Michael Schumacher’s impressive seventh title, are we now in the Hamilton era which will see him crowned the greatest F1 driver of all time?
